A Cincinnati legend, Pete Rose, will be on hand to place the ceremonial first bet when the Hard Rock Casino in Cincinnati launches its HardRock online sportsbook in Ohio on Jan. 1, 2023. Former Reds star and manager Pete Rose will handle those duties during a gala celebration on the first day of the new year. The bet will be placed by Rose at 12:01 a.m. on Jan 1. Rose is the all-time MLB hits leader with 4,256. He played for the Reds from 1963-78 and again in 1984-86. He also served as player-manager of the team during this time, and as a non-playing manager from 1987-89. On August 24, 1989, Rose was permanently banned from baseball for betting on games. He recently applied to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred seeking reinstatement.
Rose also placed the inaugural first bet at Cincinnati’s Hard Rock Casino on a hand of blackjack during the grand opening of that facility on Oct. 29, 2021.
